Mower County Agricultural, Horticultural and Mechanics' Society held its first fair at Lansing village on October 11 and 12, 1864. Members of the Society were allowed to exhibit and attend the fair. Annual memberships were $1 and were required for men 17 years in age and older. Wives, daughters and sons under 17 years in age were included in the membership. Life membership was $10. Tickets for admission were $0.50 for visitation at pleasure and $0.25 tickets were for one admission. Lansing had the fair because the Society was new and the location of the fair was chosen by bids. Lansing had the highest bid at $160. Austin had the second highest at $60.
The second fair of the Society was also held in Lansing on October 10 and 11, 1865. This Society somehow ended. A second agricultural society was formed in Austin in 1868 and its first fair was held in Austin.
