The first school in Lansing was a summer school in 1858. That fall the first school building was built.
There were many small country schools located throughout the township.
Lansing School (in village)
Lansing School was part of Independent School District 492, which includes Austin. Construction began on this school building the spring of 1957 and was completed the spring of 1958. The first classes began that fall with students from five former school districts: District 43 – Lansing village; District 50 - north and east of Lansing to the Blooming Prairie and Brownsdale school district lines; District 44 – Ramsey, including the area south to Todd Park and Mapleview; District 72 Joint - Corning; and District 135 - Freeborn County two miles north and two miles west of Corning.
The first principal was Sterling Thompson, who served from 1958 to 1961. He was succeeded in the fall of 1961 by Dean Pacholl. Because enrollment in District 492 was declining in the mid 1970s, it was economically feasible to close several schools, including Lansing School. The last public school classes were the spring of 1977.
The building has been used since 1978 as a private Mennonite school and is now called Marantha Bible School.
